Switzerland: Thomi Jourdan becomes president of the government of Basel-Land, Armin Hartmann president of the government of Luzern, Karin Kayser-Frutschi Landammann of Nidwalden, Cornelia Kaufmann-Hurschler Landammann of Obwalden, and Sandro Patierno Landammann of Schwyz.
Syria: President Ahmad al-Sharaa appoints the remaining 70 members of parliament (see Oct. 5, 2025). Its first session, scheduled for July 6, is postponed on July 5 and takes place on July 12.
United States: Robert Harrington is sworn in as mayor of Charlotte, to serve the remaining 18 months of former mayor Vi Lyles' term.

Algeria: In parliamentary elections, the National Liberation Front wins 90 of 407 seats, the National Democratic Rally 73, the Front of the Future 59, the Movement of Society for Peace 43, the National Construction Movement 38, and independents 32. Turnout is about 21%.
Spain: The parliament of Andalucía, in a second round of voting, reelects Juan Manuel Moreno Bonilla as president of the Junta (68-41).
Tokelau: Andre van der Walt is appointed administrator.

Lithuania: Prime minister-designate Mindaugas Sinkevicius nominates a government with Martynas Katelynas as interior minister and Taurimas Valys as finance minister; Kestutis Budrys is to remain foreign minister and Robertas Kaunas defense minister. On July 14 parliament approves the government program (72-29) and the government is sworn in.

Osmochescu

Moldova: Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu resigns. On July 7 President Maia Sandu appoints Eugen Osmochescu as acting prime minister, effective July 8. On July 11 Sandu asks Vasile Tofan to form a government.

Japan: In gubernatorial elections in Shiga, incumbent Taizo Mikazuki wins 66.1% of the vote and Motoshi Osumi 21.6%. Turnout is 40.4%.

Colombia: President-elect Abelardo de la Espriella names Jorge Eduardo Mora as defense minister, and on July 8 Omar Bula Escobar as foreign minister.
France: The government of Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu survives a no-confidence motion, which receives 132 votes (289 needed).

Pakistan: The chief minister-elect of Gilgit-Baltistan, Amjad Hussain, is sworn in.

Malaysia: In parliamentary elections in Johor, the Barisan Nasional wins 59.7% of the vote (48 of 56 seats), the Pakatan Harapan 32.6% (8), and the Perikatan Nasional 5.4% (0). Turnout is 69.6%. Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi is again sworn in as chief minister on July 12.

Bangladesh: Former acting president (2002) Jamiruddin Sircar dies.
Qatar: Former emir (1995-2013) and prime minister (1995-96) Sheikh Hamad ibn Khalifa Al Thani dies.
Ukraine: President Volodymyr Zelensky announces a cabinet reshuffle involving the replacement of Prime Minister Yuliya Svyrydenko. She submits her resignation on July 13, which parliament accepts (258-1) on July 14. On July 15 Zelensky dismisses Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov and submits the nomination of Serhiy Koretsky as prime minister. On July 16 parliament approves Koretsky (289-1) and then a cabinet proposed by Koretsky (264-15) including Ivan Vyhivsky as interior minister and Serhiy Marchenko remaining finance minister; Zelensky appoints Maj.Gen. Yevheniy Khmara as acting defense minister and nominates him for the permanent post.

Belgium: Former minister-president of the French Community (1999-2004) Hervé Hasquin dies.
Canada: Former premier of Nova Scotia (1999-2006) John Hamm dies.
Hungary: Parliament votes (139-6) an amendment to the constitution which, among other things, terminates the mandate of President Tamás Sulyok the day after promulgation of the law.
Venezuela: In a cabinet reshuffle, Félix Plasencia is appointed foreign minister.

Zambia: Former acting president (2014-15) Guy Scott dies.
